About Jacoba Paulus
-
Initially experimenting with intuitive writing, Jacoba felt inspired to try a similar approach to drawing. She worked very quickly to avoid thoughts getting in the way of the creative process, going through a large amount of paper aiming to hold a state of indefiniteness for a specific period, inviting images to pop up, and abandoning any agenda towards the outcome.
The initial idea was for the original drawings to stay just black and white, and she was hesitant about ‘thinning down’ their somewhat harsh expression with colour. Still, upon reflection, she decided in favour of the collaged coloured prints to add some depth and vibrance to the images.
